Bahamian Music and Heritage Festival, Exuma

GEORGE TOWN, Exuma, The Bahamas — Hundreds of residents, international and domestic visitors enjoyed the scene at the opening night of the 17th Annual Bahamian Music and Heritage Festival, on March 16, 2023, in George Town, Exuma.  Along with musical performances from various acts, including Simeon Outten, The Village Band, “Singing Bishop” Lawrence Rolle, Bahamian food, Junkanoo education and craft work all added to the Festival.  The event runs for three nights, and will feature more musicians, performers and artisans.

Bahamian advocate elected to Vice-Chairperson and Rapporteur of UN Human Rights Committee on Women & Girl’s Rights

FEBRUARY 18, 2023, GENEVA, SWITZERLAND: During the 84th session of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee), esteemed Bahamian human rights expert and attorney, Marion Bethel was elected to the position of Vice-Chairperson and Rapporteur of the Committee. In June 2016 she became the first Bahamian to be elected to a UN Human Rights Treaty Body. Minister of Health & Wellness thanks Cuban nurses for their service during the COVID-19 Pandemic

NASSAU, Bahamas — An appreciation ceremony was held at SuperClubs Breezes resort, January 30, 2023, to thank the remaining cohort of nurses from the Republic of Cuba who joined the cadre of healthcare workers at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) to assist in the delivery of hospital services and patient care in face of the impact of COVID-19. The cohort originally comprised 42 nurses who started their duties on Monday, January 24, 2022.   The ceremony was attended by some 25 remaining nurses. Minister of Health and Wellness the Hon.
