Ministry of Health and Wellness on a path to reduce cost of healthcare

State-Recognized Funeral for the late Dr. Eugene Newry

NASSAU, The Bahamas — A State-Recognized Funeral was held today for the late Dr. Eugene Newry, former diplomat, educator and neurosurgeon, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral.  Interment was at the Catholic Cemetery, Tyler Street.  At conclusion of the ceremonies, the National Flag was presented to Mrs. Newry by Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service, the Hon. Frederick Mitchell.

“Sports in Paradise is back,” proclaims Minister Bowleg

NASSAU, The Bahamas – During his Contribution to the 2022/2023 Budget Debate in the House of Assembly, on June 13, 2022, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Mario Bowleg said that Sports was the “single tool” that could bring forth positive social changes. “Therefore, we, a caring Government, will be investing heavily in our athletes, their development, facilities and the overall brand,” Minister Bowleg said. He noted that for 30 years, the annual grant from his Ministry to national federations, for “A” classified core sports, was $80,000. The Prime Minister pays respects at Lie-in-Repose of Dr. Eugene Newry

NASSAU, The Bahamas — Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Philip Davis paid last respects at Lie-in-Repose ceremonies for the Late Dr. Eugene Newry, former diplomat, educator and neurosurgeon, at Bethel Brothers Morticians, June 16, 2022.  Pictured, the Prime Minister signs the Book of Condolence, pays respects, and greets son of Dr. Newry, Eugene Torchon-Newry, and members of the family. A State-Recognized Funeral will be held June 17 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral with interment at the Catholic Cemetery, Tyler Street.    The service will be broadcast live via ZNS Radio Network from the cathedral, beginning at 11 a.m.

Smith, signed the Book of Condolence and paid last respects at the Lie-in-Repose of the Late Dr. Eugene Newry, Former Diplomat, Educator and Neurosurgeon, at Bethel Brothers Morticians on Thursday, June 16, 2022.  The Governor General greeted the widow of Dr. Newry, Mrs. Francoise Torchon-Newry.

Comprehensive tourism initiatives outlined in 2022-23 Budget by the Deputy Prime Minister

NASSAU, The Bahamas – A total of $2.5 billion in investments, infrastructural upgrades to Family Island airports, and increase in visitor arrivals were outlined by the Hon. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation in his 2022-23 Budget presentation. He made contribution to the debate in the House of Assembly on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. “In terms of investment, which goes hand-in-hand with tourism, we have already restructured the National Economic Council. This has already reaped significant results,” he said. Ministry of Education’s School Resource Officer Pilot Program seeing good results

NASSAU, The Bahamas – A School Resource Officer (SRO) Pilot Program, designed to improve school safety, has been launched by the Ministry of Education and Technical & Vocational Training at public schools in New Providence and is yielding significant results. The program is a joint partnership between school administrators, security officers and SROs. The Hon. Rt. Hon. Dame Janet Bostwick celebrates 40 years as the first woman elected to parliament

NASSAU, The Bahamas — A luncheon was held to honour the Rt. Hon. Dame Janet Bostwick on her 40th anniversary as the first woman elected to serve in the House of Assembly, Friday, June 10, 2022 at Sapodilla Restaurant.  Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper gave remarks.  Also giving tributes were: the first woman to serve as Deputy Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Cynthia ‘Mother’ Pratt; first female Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rome Italia Johnson, current Minister of Education and Technical & Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin; and Senator the Hon. Michela Barnett-Ellis.  A number of prominent stateswomen, friends and family were also present to celebrate the occasion.
