Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister takes ‘Trees that Feed’ initiative to Grand Bahama

GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas — Representing the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister, Mrs. Ann Marie Davis continued her initiative for New Providence and the Family Islands of planting ‘Trees that Feed,’ during her latest visit to Grand Bahama Island. Following a tour of the Backyard Nursery Display Area at Coral Vita Saturday, October 29th, Mrs. Davis, accompanied by Minister for Grand Bahama the Hon. Ginger Moxey, and Mrs. Patrice Russell, wife of Senator Kirkland Russell, donned gloves and took to the soil at Coral Vita to plant a single breadfruit tree, which is at the fore of her initiative.  Mrs. Davis and Minister Moxey also visited the Grand Bahama Children’s Home, and planted a breadfruit tree there. The Governor General receives the first Poppy.

NASSAU, The Bahamas — Governor General His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Cornelius A. Smith (centre) received the first Poppy in a special Poppy Presentation at the Office of the Governor General, October 11, 2022  by Mrs. Adina D. Munroe-Charlow, Chairman/Treasurer/Welfare Officer, British Legion – Bahamas Branch.  Also present were Father Andrew Toppin and Vice-Chairman Kevin Hanna.

National Cultural Commission awards ceremony to honour John Berkley ‘Peanuts’ Taylor

NASSAU, The Bahamas — The Bahamas National Cultural Commission announced its first ‘Cultural Awards’ ceremony for Friday, October 21, 2022 at historic Margaritaville Beach Resort, site of the former, famous ‘Drum Beat Club’ of upcoming honouree — John Berkley ‘Peanuts’ Taylor.   Chair of the commission, Carolyn Vogt-Evans said during a Press Briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister, October 14, 2022 — The Bahamas has a lot of work to do to catch-up with the world in honouring its national cultural icons, ambassadors and heroes, who worked, lifetimes, promoting The Bahamas and placing the nation on the map.  Also pictured is Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Berry Island Airport, set to open at year’s end

NASSAU, The Bahamas — Tourism officials inspect Berry Island Airport set to open at year’s end. Dr. Kenneth Romer, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Aviation and Investments and Acting Director of Aviation, led a delegation on an inspection and assessment of the newly-built airport terminal on the Berry Islands, on Thursday, October 13, 2022. He was accompanied by Bahamas Airport Authority Chairman Paul Bevans, General Manager Peter Rutherford, and other officials.

State Minister LaRoda – “with improving and expanding our early warning systems and our styles of communication, we can reduce damage, save money, and most importantly, save lives”

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Hon. Myles LaRoda, Minister of State in the office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction affirmed The Bahamas is moving towards implementing early warning systems as a mitigating tool in the fight against natural disasters. He made the statement at a Disaster Risk Reduction Summit held Thursday morning, October 13, 2022 at Baha Mar Resort. There, a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation and Exchange was signed between the University of The Bahamas and the University of Hawaii facilitating research and training in disaster risk reduction.
