The Bahamas Culture and Couture Fashion Show 2022

NASSAU, The Bahamas — Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, of the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister, joined officers and staff of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, and the general public, at the Department of Culture’s “The Bahamas Culture and Couture Fashion Show 2022”, held on the front lawn of the Ivy Dumont Building, on University Boulevard, on July 22, 2022. The event showcased original pieces by more than a dozen notable Bahamian fashion designers and up-and-coming BTVI students, as well as musical performances, and fire dancers. Minister Bowleg Visits Summer Camp at Tom ‘The Bird’ Grant Park

NASSAU, The Bahamas — Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Mario Bowleg interacts with participants, facilitators and stakeholders in one of his Ministry’s Summer Sports Camps, on July 14, 2022, at the Tom “The Bird” Grant Park, in Yellow Elder Gardens. Among those present included Permanent Secretary Cora Bain-Colebrooke; Head of the Division of Youth Sandena Neely; Department of Sports officers and staff; Dr. Carlos Reid; and camp coaches and assistants, including three Bahamian international volleyball players. Minister Bowleg also visited camps at the Yellow Elder Primary and H. O. Nash Junior High Schools, and the Edmund Moxey Community Centre that day. The Ministry has other on-going Culture, Sports and Youth Summer Camps throughout The Bahamas.

Young sailor, Craig Ferguson, wins gold in Bodrum, Turkey

NASSAU, The Bahamas — Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mario Bowleg, today met upon return home, 13-year-old youth sailor champion, Craig Ferguson, who won the gold medal in the Silver Fleet division at a sailing competition in Bodrum, Turkey. Also returning home with him from the competition were Zane Munro, who came 4th in the Silver Fleet division; and Norman Cartwright, who came 6th in the Emerald Fleet division. Minister Bowleg met the young sailors at Lynden Pindling International Airport, along with a celebration Junkanoo rushout.

“Sports in Paradise is back,” proclaims Minister Bowleg

NASSAU, The Bahamas – During his Contribution to the 2022/2023 Budget Debate in the House of Assembly, on June 13, 2022, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Mario Bowleg said that Sports was the “single tool” that could bring forth positive social changes. “Therefore, we, a caring Government, will be investing heavily in our athletes, their development, facilities and the overall brand,” Minister Bowleg said. He noted that for 30 years, the annual grant from his Ministry to national federations, for “A” classified core sports, was $80,000. Over the years, he noted, that amount was drastically cut to $20,000. “I am pleased to advise that those Federations that are among this group, who are in compliance with the Ministry, their annual grant will be restored,” Minister Bowleg said...
