NASSAU, The Bahamas — The Ministry of Economic Affairs hosted its inaugural meeting for the members of the newly appointed Trade Commission. The meeting was held at the Balmoral Club, Sanford Drive, on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.  The newly appointed body includes a cross-section of professionals, who represent both New Providence and the Family Islands.  Minister of Economic Affairs, Senator the Hon. State Reception Celebrates the 49th Independence Anniversary of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas

NASSAU, The Bahamas – A State Reception was held celebrating the 49th Independence Anniversary of Commonwealth of The Bahamas, under the theme “Proud to be Bahamian”. The event was staged at Baha Mar Convention Centre on Monday, July 11, 2022, which was observed as the holiday. Scores of guests gathered in the convention centre which was adorned with Bahamian flags hanging from the ceiling and attached to walls and columns with patriotic fervour.  An added attraction was that of artists painting images on site. Young sailor, Craig Ferguson, wins gold in Bodrum, Turkey

NASSAU, The Bahamas — Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mario Bowleg, today met upon return home, 13-year-old youth sailor champion, Craig Ferguson, who won the gold medal in the Silver Fleet division at a sailing competition in Bodrum, Turkey. Also returning home with him from the competition were Zane Munro, who came 4th in the Silver Fleet division; and Norman Cartwright, who came 6th in the Emerald Fleet division. UECP Milestone Orthopaedic Clinic Wound Care Services Re-opening

Minister of Health & Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, officially commissioned the Orthopaedic Clinic and Wound Care Services areas at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) as part of a brief ceremony Monday July 4th, 2022. The newly relocated and upgraded service areas were officially handed over to the hospital by contractor Inline Construction Company and will resume clinical services providing care for the hospital’s outpatients. The improvement works are part of the initial phase of the Urgent & Emergency Care Project, a joint initiative between the Ministry of Health & Wellness and the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) which broke ground in 2019. NEMA and Exuma partners, team up to host Swift Water Rescue Exercise

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), recently collaborated with the Swift Water Rescue Unit (Exuma), and Island Administrator Christian Palacious, to conduct a swift water emergency rescue drill that was designed to test the Unit’s response capabilities. The Swift Water team was led by Sgt. 1414 Kelalrico Burrows, Royal Bahamas Police Force. (The Exercise is in line with NEMA ’s ongoing efforts to create more resilient communities throughout the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.) Swift Water Rescue teams are often deployed to help manage water-related emergencies and conduct water-based search and rescue operations during hurricanes or other large-scale, water-based emergencies. Bahamas Celebrates with the United States 246th Independence Anniversary

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Commonwealth of the Bahamas joined the United States of America in celebrating its 246th Year of Independence, aboard the U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, USS Lassen (DDG 82) on Friday, July 1, 2022. The ceremony took place while the vessel was in port at Prince George Wharf, Nassau Harbour, under the theme: ‘From Sea to Shining Sea.’ The Hon. Bahamas delegates to UN Oceans Conference meet with Waitt Foundation

LISBON, Portugal — The Bahamas Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources delegation to the United Nations Oceans Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, June 27 to July 1, held a bilateral meeting with Ted Waitt (pictured third right), and the Waitt Foundation, in efforts to extend the Foundation’s reach in The Bahamas and build capacity among Bahamians. Among topics discussed were initiatives to make environmental stewardship more relatable to all. The Waitt Foundation partners with governments and stakeholders to create and implement sustainable ocean plans to benefit communities, the economy, and the environment.

Full Orlando flight arrives to pomp and pageantry

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – The return of the direct Bahamasair flight from Orlando to Grand Bahama arrived on Thursday, June 30, 2022 shortly after 11:00 a.m. to a water salute, smiling dignitaries and the pulsating sounds of Junkanoo. The weekly direct flight was introduced to the travelling public prior to Hurricane Dorian in 2019 and following the devastating hurricane, there was the COVID-19 pandemic. NASSAU, The Bahamas – Graduates of the inaugural session of the Bahamas Public Service Institutional Capacity Building Programme were recognized and celebrated for their efforts Friday, June 24, 2022. The program was put on by the Bahamas Government in conjunction with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and facilitated by University of The Bahamas through the Government and Public Policy Institute (GPPI) and Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning Centre (CLEARN).
