Minister of State LaRoda makes assessment of impacts of Hurricane Fiona on Mayaguana

NASSAU, Bahamas — Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response, the Hon. Myles K. LaRoda, along with a contingent  of Government Ministers, Senior Government Officials, Disaster Managers and Planners, Damage Assessment personnel, and personnel from the Ministry of Works, Bahamas Power and Light, the Department of Social Services and the Royal. Bahamas Defence Force, departed New Providence Wednesday morning for Mayaguana to conduct first-hand assessments of the impacts of Tropical Storm-Force winds associated with Hurricane Fiona on Mayaguana.

State-Minister LaRoda was joined by Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources with responsibility for Local Government, the Hon. Clay Sweeting; Mr. Basil McIntosh; Mr. Carl F. Smith, Permanent Secretary in the Office  of the Prime Minister’s Disaster Management Unit; Mr. Alex Storr, Chairman, the Disaster Reconstruction Authority (DRA); Captain Stephen Russell, Director, the National Emergency Management Agency, and Mr. Neil Campbell, Acting Director, Department of Local Government.  The delegation made a stop in Exuma where they received evacuees from Mayaguana for the return trip home.
