Rt. Hon. Dame Janet Bostwick celebrates 40 years as the first woman elected to parliament

NASSAU, The Bahamas — A luncheon was held to honour the Rt. Hon. Dame Janet Bostwick on her 40th anniversary as the first woman elected to serve in the House of Assembly, Friday, June 10, 2022 at Sapodilla Restaurant.  Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper gave remarks.  Also giving tributes were: the first woman to serve as Deputy Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Cynthia ‘Mother’ Pratt; first female Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rome Italia Johnson, current Minister of Education and Technical & Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin; and Senator the Hon. Michela Barnett-Ellis.  A number of prominent stateswomen, friends and family were also present to celebrate the occasion.

Minister LaRoda and NEMA officials assess West GB communities’ readiness for 2022 hurricane season

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrated at Balmoral Club Reception

NASSAU, The Bahamas — A Balmoral Club Reception was held, Thursday, June 9, 2022 on the Occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  Addressing the celebration were Governor General His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Cornelius A. Smith and Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper.  A Toast to the Queen was offered by the Governor General.  Taking part in the cutting of the Platinum Jubilee Cake were the Governor General, the Acting Prime Minister, and Her Excellency Sarah Dickson, British High Commissioner to The Bahamas.  Former Governor General, the Most Hon. Dame Marguerite Pindling was also in attendance, along with dignitaries and government officials.

Minister Bowleg Attends Launch of Fresh Start Programme

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Mario Bowleg and Permanent Secretary Eugene Poitier joined Head of the Division of Youth Sandena Neely and Programme Coordinator Chanda Roberts, on February 28, 2022, for the launch of its Fresh Start Youth Employability Programme. According to the Ministry, the sixteen-week programme prepares its participants for employment. They are taught how to identify potential employment opportunities, improve personal qualities, qualifications, and job search skills, make sound professional personal decisions, gain momentum and confidence for their journey ahead. The Minister of National Security, the Honorable Wayne R. Munroe, Q.C., escorted by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Paul Rolle, toured the Royal Bahamas Police Force locations on Abaco Island, Bahamas on Friday 25 February 2022. The purpose of the visit was to determine the needs of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and to meet and hear the concerns of the men and women that serve within this prestigious organization. UB re-establishes the College of Tourism, Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Leisure Management

The University of The Bahamas (UB) held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Re-establishment of the College of Tourism, Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Leisure Management (The CALM) on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the Oakes Field Campus. UB President Dr. Rodney Smith cut the ribbon along with Acting Director General of Tourism Latia Duncombe to officially declare the college open. Dr. Smith announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of South Carolina, Beaufort, which is in the top ten of tourism and hospitality studies in the United States.
